They emphasize the use of natural and plant-based ingredients, prioritizing pure and clean ingredients above all else. Saje products are 100% natural, and sold on eCommerce channels and retail locations throughout North America.
Quick Overview: the Good and the Bad
Overall, Saje is a great natural wellness company.
However, in my opinion, they are not the #1 essential oil specialists. Let me explain…
Positive Points
- Quality products: I appreciate the quality of Saje’s essential oils and natural wellness products. They are 3rd party GC/MS tested and follow strict quality guidelines for sourcing and partnering businesses, as well.
- Natural and plant-based: Saje as a company is committed to using 100% natural and plant-based ingredients.
- Diffusers are warrantied for life: Nowhere else can you enjoy such a solid diffuser warranty.
Negative Points
- Product variety: While I appreciate the wide range of natural wellness products offered (including body care items), the straight up essential oils library is only 21 oils big. For the core aromatherapist at heart, this lack of variety forces me to go find many oils elsewhere. On the bright side, there are many lovely blends to choose from: 58 blends to be exact!
- Price: I find Saje’s products to be relatively expensive compared to other essential oil brands. This positions Saje as a bit more of a luxury brand, which shows in their exquisite packaging and classy positioning. I suppose this could be a positive point, as well.
- Limited availability: While Saje is expanding into the United States, their retail locations are primarily in Canada. This is great if you live up North and want to smell-test anything before buying! However, it can be a drawback for international customers who have limited access to Saje products. Online ordering is an option, but then returns & exchanges may become a bit more cumbersome.
Other than that though, you can buy some seriously awesome products at Saje. Let me show them to you!
Brief Company Overview
Saje Natural Wellness launched in 1992 in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada, founded by husband-and-wife team, Jean-Pierre LeBlanc and Kate Ross LeBlanc.
The mission statement on their website reads: “We are a purpose-led brand, committed to positively impacting our planet and its people.” ¹
How Saje realizes this mission shows in their company programs such as RPET, where they’ll re-purpose plastic bottles to reduce waste and support the wellness of people in under-served communities.
In 2017, Saje was ranked as one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies ² for three years in a row.
Today, Saje operates 57 retail stores in Canada and 19 in the United States ³. They offer 500+ products, and lists over 500 employees on LinkedIn.
It’s a big brand to shop with, deserving of a high-quality, in-depth look from my humble perspective.
Essential Oil Quality
When I decided to give Saje essential oils a try, I wanted to test aromatherapy basics that I felt really familiar with. This is so I could make the best decision in the smell test part of my reviewing.
- I choose the Aromatherapy 101 kit ($50 for 4 x 5ml), which includes Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Orange, and Lavender.
- In addition to the starter kit, I also tested the single note essential oils of Tea Tree and Peppermint ($26 for 10 ml).
The oils are okay. I honestly wasn’t blown away by them, but I also didn’t think they were terrible.
The starter kit included a small pamphlet indicating the essential oils’ purpose and use. It also included aroma strips to use for passive diffusing around the home.
The oil bottle quality was nice, the bottle caps also of high quality. They’re nice oils. Just… somehow not my favorite scent profile.
So if you’re considering shopping with Saje, or if you’re wondering if a gift you’ve received would be ok to use around your home, family, kids or pets, I can tell you, yes it is. Saje oils are good quality. Just not my favorite.
Quality Assurance
Saje essential oils follows a lot of quality and safety protocols. Their partners are licensed and registered with Health Canada and the FDA as appropriate, and are certified as meeting high-quality standards (e.g. cGLP, cGMP, ISO) 4.
Plus, the company has published a Saje Natural Standard protocol, which is an internal process for quality assurance. It promises ingredients that are reliably sourced, properly documented and laboratory-verified for safety.
Now for essential oils, this documentation includes GC/MS testing, which is great! But I couldn’t get my hands on this information; it is kept internally in the company.
Other essential oil companies such as Plant Therapy, REVIVE or Rocky Mountain Oils make their GC/MS reports publicly available. Plus, they are always updated with the information from the latest batch, which is when an essential oils company buys a bulk order of oils from their supplier.
Now of course, only a handful of consumers will read a GC/MS report, let alone know what to do with the information provided in it. But the point is that if someone is interested, they could get the information. It’s a fine nuance…. and you can decide for yourself if this matters to you or not.
Product Selection
If you choose to shop with Saje Natural Wellness, you are in good hands! You can buy a large variety of natural wellness products. It seems that Saje is first and foremost a natural skin care company, and the essential oil side is sort of “also available”.
It’s not a bad thing, but please stick with me as I explain.
Essential Oils
The essential oils selection at Saje is okay. They offer just 21 single note essential oils, which isn’t terribly much if you’re looking for something a little out of the box.
To date, there are over 130 single note essential oils being manufactured and sold 5. So if you’re looking for anything much beyond the standard Lavender, Peppermint or Lemon, you likely won’t find it here.
However, if you like essential oil blends, you’re in for a treat! Saje offers 58 blends, 28 roll-on products and 8 combination kits. These products aim at treating specific ailments. The blends that stood out to me had names such as Stress Release, Yoga, or Peaceful Slumber. The blends are fabulous!!
Carrier Oils
On the front of carrier oils, Saje only sells Fractionated coconut oil. This is different to many other brands that offer a huge selection of base oils, from Sweet Almond, Jojoba, to Apricot Kernel or Black Cumin Seed.
For me, this simply reinforces the idea that Saje is primarily a natural skin care company, and the aromatherapy side is, well… more on the sidelines.
Which isn’t bad! Please don’t get me wrong.
Saje is wonderful to shop with if you’re looking for their core offering, which are natural wellness products.
Diffusers
Saje sells 11 different diffusers, which they all warranty for life. So this is amazing, you can get your diffuser fixed or replaced, for life.
The diffusers are sleek, beautiful, and modern. I’d definitely buy a diffuser here!
However, the price range for a diffuser here is $78 – $150, which isn’t ideal for essential oil beginners. But for seasoned essential oil lovers who are looking for something a bit more luxurious and classy, these units should definitely be on your wish list!
Aromatherapy Accessories
Saje doesn’t have much for aromatherapy accessories (think diffuser jewelry, carrying cases, or essential oil labels). I found just a diffuser cleaning kit. Which is okay!

Please note that you cannot return a functional, previously used diffuser. However, you do get lifetime warranty on your diffuser and can should it break, you can get it repaired or exchanged at Saje for free.
Final Thoughts: Is Saje Worth It?
Saje offers a large selection of beautiful natural wellness products and essential oils. If you’re shopping for a gift, or a simple natural skin care product, I’d definitely recommend the brand. The packaging is beautiful and you have a lot of things to choose from.
It’s also a great brand to shop with if you’re looking for natural solutions to specific problems as you can use their easy “Shop by Concern” feature on the website.
But if you’re into essential oil DIY’s, or oils that are perhaps a bit more off the beaten path, I recommend you choose a different brand instead, with a larger selection of single essential oils. Your best bet there would be Plant Therapy, Rocky Mountain Oils, or Amrita Aromatherapy if you love all things organic.

Canadian here! I love Saje but it is a bit pricey. Their Peppermint Halo is my go to roll-on for headaches and migraines. Thank you for this review.
