Classic pumpkin spice is one of the most common scents of the fall season. Loved by many, it reminds us of a freshly baked pumpkin pie cooling on the window sill.
It can be hard to find a ready-made scent that smells like the real deal. You don’t have to reach for synthetic fragrances or ingredients. Essential oils are a perfect choice for a natural, pumpkin pie scent.
Here is how to make your own pumpkin spice blend to use in your diffuser, DIY recipes, or as a perfume if you wish. This homemade pumpkin spice essential oil blend is a real treat!

Pumpkin Spice Essential Oil Blend Recipe
Shopping for pumpkin spice blends was actually tougher than I thought. Few essential oil companies sell a pumpkin spice type of essential oil blend. Hint: these are the ones that do.
This is especially true if you’re looking for this favorite scent when it is not in season. What if you want pumpkin spice in February? Well, easy! You’ll just have to blend your own.
You can quickly make this pumpkin spice blend at home. Do it once as a master blend, and use it often!
A master blend simply means to create a larger amount of a blend you like. This way, you don’t have to re-blend it anytime you want to use it.
Ingredients
- 20 drops Cinnamon Bark essential oil
- 20 drops Ginger Root essential oil
- 15 drops Nutmeg essential oil
- 15 drops Clove Bud essential oil
- 10 drops Sweet Orange essential oil
- 5 drops Cardamom essential oil
Directions
- Add all essential oils into an empty 5 ml amber glass bottle. This size bottle will hold the blend perfectly.
- Tighten the screw cap and gently shake the bottle to blend the oils. Do not shake too roughly.
- Use 5-6 drops in your essential oil diffuser.
Notes
Nutmeg and clove have very strong scents. It is important to use equal parts nutmeg and clove, to keep the blend balanced.
Adding orange essential oil makes sure the blend smells sweet and is not overwhelmed by the stronger spices.
This blend should have a very mild and pleasant scent. You may even find yourself wanting to make more of it again to get you through the winter season, too.
It is great for diffusing, adding to DIY recipes, and even for perfuming your body.
Where To Buy Pumpkin Spice Essential Oil Blend
Do you love pumpkin spice but don’t feel like doing your own blending? No worries, I’ve got your back!
The following essential oil companies offer fabulous ready-made pumpkin spice essential oil blends. But hurry! Some of them are available for a limited time only! Score them today so you never go without your favorite scent.
- Plant Therapy: Pumpkin Spice blend, 10 ml for $11.99. Also available as part of the “Fall Festival” set. *** PERSONAL TEST WINNER ***
- REVIVE: Pumpkin Pie blend, 10 ml for $16.
- Rocky Mountain Oils: Pumpkin Spice Latte, 5 ml for $25.57
Here is a comparison and evaluation between the three:
Pumpkin Spice from Plant Therapy
This pumpkin spice blend smells amazing! It seems to have just the right balance between Cinnamon and Clove. It also smells light and airy, with just the right amount of Orange…. which I love! This is definitely my personal test winner and a fabulous choice to diffuse in your home to create that special fall atmosphere!
Pumpkin Pie from REVIVE
At REVIVE, their Pumpkin Pie blend smells herbaceous yet sweet. I think it’s the Cardamom and Vanilla notes I can make out the most. It smells a little bit sweeter than the other oils tested in this round. If you love Vanilla though, this could very well be the blend choice for you! Also, it would work well in a fall-themed DIY candle or to easily scent your potpourri.
Pumpkin Spice Latte from Rocky Mountain Oils
Rocky Mountain Oils’ version of a Pumpkin Spice blend smells deep, rich, and definitely right on point! I can’t make out one dominant scent over another, which is a great indication of a well-balanced scent. With the addition of Coffee essential oil (which is not included in the other two blends), it does smell stronger and somewhat darker than the other oils in this test. That said, if you love the “latte” part of Pumpkin Spice, you won’t be disappointed with this blend. I’ll be using mine for a seasonal DIY sugar scrub and to diffuse on our door steps for Halloween.
Final Thoughts
I hope that with my essential oil pumpkin spice blend recipe and ready-made blend comparisons, you finally found the right blend. If you’ve never tried a Pumpkin Spice scent in your diffuser, DIY recipe or home decoration – you might just want to try it out!
Happy fall!
