Before we get started, I have to share that this is a sponsored post. I thank Emma with Essential Oil Haven for partnering with us to share our simple DIY repair parts for getting your Young Living and doTerra diffusers working like brand new. Also, as I am the co-founder of DiffuserDoc, you will appreciate my enthusiasm for our products and my love for the genius mind behind our parts and services.
Our Story
Well over a decade ago, I purchased a Young Living diffuser with oils. I was hooked. I loved the smell my house had from the oils and I was well aware of the health benefits. I got some good use out of my diffuser until one day I began to notice very little mist. I continued to use it but after a week or so, it just wasn’t misting properly and I had to make a decision… throw it away?… or try and fix it?

Trying to fix it
Fixing it was my ideal solution. Let’s face it, diffusers are not cheap and most importantly they don’t recycle, so the last thing I want is for them to sit in a landfill.
Luckily, my husband has a love for taking things apart and understands the science behind how things work. He knew that the ultrasonic disc was more than likely this issue and he began learning how diffusers worked. He researched its functionality and studied some more. I think an entire year went by and then one day he surprised me with a working diffuser!
From there, we were shocked at how many people we knew had the same problems with their diffusers. The word spread and the next thing we knew, he fixed countless diffusers. That’s when we knew we had to share this discovery with our diffuser loving friends!
Why does your ultrasonic disc need to be replaced?
I like to best compare the disc to a light bulb. They have a life span and then simply need to be replaced. The ultrasonic disc is responsible for vibrating at a particular frequency which in return creates the vapor. Over time and with wear from oils and water particles, they eventually begin to fail. All diffusers regardless of the brand will eventually need maintenance. Check out DiffuserDoc.com for Young Living and doTerra diffuser parts. The repair is quick and easy and our Youtube instructional videos will guide you through the entire process.
There are three simple indicators that your ultrasonic disc needs to be replaced
There are three common issues one may experience when their ultrasonic disc is failing.
- Low Mist Output: One indicator is while diffusing, you begin to experience low output of mist or the unfortunate day when your diffuser will not turn on. If you notice low mist output, first try adding more water to ensure the unit is filled to the appropriate level.
- No Output: If the water tank of your diffuser is filled, but you still don’t get any mist output, it’s likely that your ultrasonic disc is failing.
- Blinking Light: A blinking light is also a clear indicator that you need a disc replacement. Sometimes it is your fan. You will know this by the loud noise it produces or your fan simply will not run.

- Remove the screws to gain access to your ultrasonic disc or fan.
- Unplug the connectors as shown below.
- Replace the fan or disc with new replacement part.
- Reassemble the base and parts. Ensure there is no excess water inside the unit before reassembling to prevent any operational issues.

Troubleshooting and Repair
If your diffuser is not working properly, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and repair it.
First, check if water has entered the diffuser due to overfilling, bumping, or moving the unit while full. Unplug and clean the unit to remove any water and essential oil. Allow the unit to sit for a day or two to “dry out” to prevent any further issues. Essential oils may take longer to evaporate than water, so be patient and let the unit dry completely. Once dry, refill the diffuser and try it again to see if it works properly. If the issue persists, you may need to replace the ultrasonic disc or other parts.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance can help extend the life span of your diffuser. I’ve written a detailed tutorial on how to clean your diffuser HERE.
In short: use a cotton swab to clean the air intake and power adapter. Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in the water tank and run the diffuser for a few minutes to clean the unit. Then, rinse the tank with tap water and dry it thoroughly. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that can damage the unit. Cleaning your diffuser regularly can help prevent damage from essential oils and water.
How to repair a Young Living Home Diffuser
Essential oil diffusers are a great way to enjoy the health benefits of essential oils.
However, they require proper care and maintenance to function properly.
By following the troubleshooting and repair steps, cleaning and maintaining your diffuser regularly, and following tips for a long-lasting diffuser, you can ensure your unit lasts for a long time.
Remember to always use high-quality essential oils and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
With proper care and maintenance, your diffuser can provide you with years of enjoyment and health benefits!

Thank you

I’m wondering if you have the ultrasonic disc for the doterra iris car diffuser? Mine has no output and turns off within 5 mins.

I am having the same problem with my doter iris car diffuser. Were you able to fix yours?

Have you tried running white vinegar through it for about 15 minutes?

Hi Hui, I don’t know of another place that offers these types of repair kits. Perhaps simply re-try their website? I’ve accessed it just now and all is working: https://www.diffuserdoc.com/.

I just bought a replacement disc from your website and replaced it like your video. My Doterra Petal diffuser still won’t turn on. Any other ideas on why it won’t turn on. I have had it for 1 year.
