Chakras are energy centers throughout our body. In total, we have 7 main energy chakras that we can tap into for self-awareness, love, and healing. The fourth chakra is the heart chakra, and there are some great essential oils that you can use to bring balance to it.
Experts say love is the opposite of fear. The importance of this in our day to day lives lies in the results of our actions.
When our actions are filtered through our heart chakra we are in joy, compassion, and kindness.

Understanding the Heart Chakra
The Heart Chakra is the fourth energy center in the seven chakras system. Located in the center of the chest, it is associated with the color green and is deeply connected to our emotions, love, compassion, and relationships.
The Heart Chakra serves as a bridge between the lower and upper chakras, harmonizing our physical and spiritual selves. When this chakra is balanced, we feel deeply connected to ourselves and others, allowing us to give and receive love unconditionally.
Signs of an Imbalanced Heart Chakra
An imbalanced Heart Chakra can manifest in various ways, both emotionally and physically.
You might experience emotional instability and mood swings, making it difficult to form and maintain healthy relationships.
Feelings of disconnection from others and oneself, along with a lack of empathy and compassion, are common signs.
Physically, an imbalanced Heart Chakra can lead to heart problems, high blood pressure, and respiratory issues. Recognizing these signs is the first step towards chakra healing and restoring balance.
Blocks in the Heart Chakra
Your chakra system, when in alignment, is designed to tell you when something is wrong. It’s a survival tool and gives you access to ways of dealing with difficult situations.
“It’s impossible,” said pride.
“Its risky,” said experience.
“It’s pointless,” said reason.
“Give it a try,” whispered the heart.

Blocks in the heart chakra result from life experiences that have a strong emotional charge, physical ailments, or significant changes in your environment ¹.
Finding the lesson in a painful experience and releasing the grievance has tremendous healing effects. Unconditional love and self respect are key to heart chakra health.
Benefits of a Balanced Heart Chakra
Balancing the Heart Chakra is enormously beneficial for our emotional, mental, and physical well-being.
When the Heart Chakra is balanced, we experience emotional stability and calmness, allowing us to navigate life’s challenges with grace. We form deeper connections with others and ourselves, fostering increased empathy and compassion. Improved relationships and communication become a natural outcome, along with enhanced self-love and self-acceptance.
A balanced Heart Chakra brings a joyful outlook on life and a sense of unity and oneness with the world around us.
By using essential oils, meditation, and other chakra balancing techniques, we can invite positive energy into our heart center and promote a sense of love, compassion, and connection.
Healing the Heart Through Acts of Self Love
Experts say love comes from three main sources. Self-love, love from others and divine love – this is our ultimate place of connection. Denying yourself or others will create a huge block in your heart chakra. This can result in an inability to grow and move forward to accessing your highest potential in life.
A wise woman once told me to intentionally do five good things for myself each day. Self-loving acts can include cooking, meditating, doing yoga, or using essential oils. There are special ways you can do these things to intentionally heal this energy center.
Essential Oils for Heart Chakra Balance
Reaching for my box of essential oils to support my well-being uplifts my spirits. With this action I am instantly connecting to my heart chakra in an act and effort of self love.
There are many options of oils to choose from to bring along healing and remove blocks. Here are some of the best ones to support your heart chakra balance:
Lavender
There’s a lot to love about Lavender essential oil. It smells amazing; has many uses, and it’s powerful. Many experts name it as THE go-to oil to support mental, physical and spiritual wellness. For the chakra system, it is a universal oil. I must admit it’s the go-to choice in my kit.
Use Lavender to bring harmony, balance and support to your chakra system:
- Place 5 – 10 drops in a diffuser and/or wear 1 – 2 drops in an aromatherapy necklace diffuser.
- Wear 1 – 2 drops topically. The most absorbent area of the body is your feet. Behind your ear and neck is a great way to access the smell of the oils. Lavender essential oils are gentle enough that you can get away with using it without a carrier. But if you want your oils to last longer, I recommend using a carrier oil of your choice.
- Create your own lavender bath by adding 2-3 drops to the hot water.
Bergamot
Bergamot Essential Oil is one of my go-to oils when I am feeling disheartened. I tend to drink tea containing the flavor of it (Earl Grey Tea), and use it in my diffuser.
It contains a significant amount of bergapten, a phototoxic substance that makes it necessary to use caution when using topically. I do not recommend using it on your skin, unless you plan to avoid the sun.
Keep Bergamot Essential Oil close to your heart chakra by wearing it in a necklace diffuser.
Rose
Rose Essential Oil is one of the most popular essential oils for the heart chakra system. Nothing inspires feelings of love, romance and beauty quite like the rose. The expression “stop to smell the roses” reminds us that nature connects us to ourselves. Being in tune with ourselves is the most important first step to connecting in loving ways to others.
Diffusing Rose brings feelings of peace to your heart. Using it on your skin brings a youthful glow and supports the healing of blemishes and fine lines.
Rose Essential Oil is also beautiful to use while meditating, practicing yoga or in the bath. Add a few drops with a carrier oil or in a bath bomb.
Neroli
Neroli essential oil is fantastic for supporting the heart chakra. It is produced from the blossoms of the orange tree and features a light floral aroma. According to an article found on www.organicfacts.com, Neroli essential oil can:
- Relieve chronic depression;
- Serve as an aphrodisiac;
- Prevent infection;
- Kill bacteria;
- Promote digestion and increase appetite;
- Great for skin care; and
- Deodorize.
Use Neroli essential oil to support the balance of your heart chakra. Wear it topically in a natural perfume to absorb through the skin, or use as aromatherapy in a diffuser.
Melissa
Melissa essential oil is also known as lemon balm. I have grown this sweet, minty/lemony herb in my garden, and I find it unique and powerful as an essential oil.
Stress can cause hypertension and disrupt our circulatory system, which is directly related to your heart chakra. Melissa oil can help reduce the effects of stress by calming the nervous system.
Use in a diffuser; and/or wearit topically to enjoy the healing properties of this aromatherapy oil.
Heart Chakra Oil Blends
Two of my all-time favorite essential oil companies, Rocky Mountain Oils and Plant Therapy Essential Oils, both offer essential oil blends for the heart chakra.
Rocky Mountain Oils offers a Heart Chakra essential oil roll-on blend consisting of Geranium, Copaiba, Lime, Spearmint, and Rose essential oils. It also comes with a rose quartz rollerball to further enhance the energetic properties. This essential oil can be purchased on its own or as part of the Chakra Kit.
Plant Therapy sells a fabulous heart chakra blend called Loving Compassion. It has the oils of Pink Grapefruit, Rhodondonderon, Bergamot, and Rose Otto. It is available as a synergy blend or in a roller bottle. There is also a full chakra set of roll-onw available here.
The main difference is that at Plant Therapy, the set is only available in roll-on form. Yes, you can also buy neat chakra blends for diffusing at Plant Therapy, but they’re all singles and don’t come in a cute set. So you just have to add them all to the shopping cart separately. Not a big deal really, but noteworthy none the less.
At Rocky Mountain Oils, it’s the other way around. You can get a kit of neat 5 ml blends, but to make a set of roll-ons, you’d have to purchase them all separately.
