When creating diffuser blends with Cedarwood, I use it as the base note, which is the start of a harmonious blend.
In this blog post, I’ll share 12 of my favorite Cedarwood diffuser blends for various purposes.
Which one will you try?? There are definitely plenty to choose from!
But first…
What is Cedarwood Essential Oil?
Cedarwood oil comes from the natural extracts of Cedar wood trees, native to countries that have forested areas in higher altitude and colder climates. Its most important properties are:
- Antiseptic
- Antifungal
- Antibacterial
- Astringent
There are four types of Cedarwood: Himalayan, Atlas, Texan and Virginian Cedarwood. While there are subtle differences in each; for the purposes of these recipes, you can use either one of them that you have at home.
If you are still shopping for a bottle of Cedarwood, I have used Cedarwood Atlas from Plant Therapy. I have also posted a shopping list of other options I recommend below.
Cedarwood Blends Well With
Cedarwood oil blends well with a variety of essential oils, including lavender for relaxation, citrus oils for freshness, and frankincense or sandalwood for grounding energies.
I use Cedarwood quite a lot as a replacement oil as well, when a recipe calls for something stronger like Eucalyptus or Tea Tree oil. This substitution can make respiratory blends safe for children.
To start blending with Cedarwood oil, look for the following essential oils in your cabinet:
- Lavender
- Frankincense
- Sandalwood
- Rosemary
- Juniper Berry
- Cypress
- Bergamot
- Lime
- Lemon
- Cinnamon
- Neroli
- Jasmine
- Rose
12 Cedarwood Essential Oil Blend Recipes
When I make my Cedarwood recipes, I always start with the Cedarwood oil first. It is a base note, so it lays the foundation for the aromatic blend.
You will see this reflected in the blend sequence in each recipe. Please add the oils in this order, as it does matter.
Every time you add an oil to a blend, it reacts chemically with what’s already there. Thus, the aroma will be different if the sequence in which you add the oils, is different.
Hope that makes sense!
