Essential oil bracelets are a fun and trendy fashion accessory for anyone that loves and appreciates essential oils in their life.
They come in so many styles, colors and types, they could really be worn as jewelry alone.
Today, I want to help you understand how to use a diffuser bracelet. Which types are best to start with? Which ones would make a beautiful and thoughtful gift? And which oils should you put on them? How do you put oils on there?

Let’s dive in…!
What Is a Diffuser Bracelet?
There are different types of diffusers bracelets available. It’s good to quickly get to know the details about each type before diving into how to use them. Overall, all of these bracelet types work in the same way. But the biggest difference is in the materials used: lava rock beads or leather inserts.
Lava Rock Bead Bracelets
Lava rock is a porous material that can quickly and cleanly absorb essential oils. The beads attach to the bracelet center string.
After placing a few drops directly onto the lava rock, the oils are then absorbed and dispersed throughout the day.
I’ve had quite good results with lava rock bracelets. The scent seems to last for a while as I carry it around with me – which is appreciated!
With the round stones, the bracelet is also comfortable and not dangly or in the way of anything.
Of course, when you are using a diffuser bracelet, the benefits are greater if you have a “bracelet stack”. This is simply multiple bracelets instead of only a single one.
With a bracelet stack, you can also create your own bracelet blend on the fly by applying one oil to one bracelet, and others to your additionals. Bead bracelets especially lend themselves super well to stacking.
Overall, this is my favorite type of diffuser bracelet (and I own a few).
Leather Locket Bracelets
Another type of diffuser bracelet is the “leather pad” or “locket” type.
This kind of bracelet features a jewelry centerpiece, in which you place leather pads that hold the essential oil drops.
Most locket bracelets are made of high quality, stainless steel metal. They usually feature different colored leather inserts for further customization of your look.
If this look and style suits you, you can have amazing experiences with leather diffuser jewelry. You can even keep different leather pads labeled fr u
How To Use Your Diffuser Bracelet
Diffuser bracelets work through our olfactory system, our sense of smell.
Smell is the fastest and most direct way to our brain, and with that, our emotions.
Using an aromatherapy bracelet lets you inhale the chosen scent all day long. The scent from a bracelet fades a lot slower than when oils are applied to the skin. On the skin, oils can get washed away by a shower or sweating in the sun. On a bracelet, the oils last and remain strong.
To use your diffuser bracelet, simply place 2-3 drops of your chosen oil onto the lava beads or leather pad.
Best Essential Oils for Your Diffuser Bracelet
You can use any one of your favorite essential oils on your diffuser bracelet. Different oils will have different effects on different people.
I’ve found the following oils to be quite useful for use on a bracelet:
- Uplifting or energizing essential oils: Use oils such as Bergamot, Lemon or Grapefruit to lift your mood and add that pep in your step.
- Anti-stress oils such as Lavender, Ylang-Ylang or this Worry Free blend are quite handy to keep on you if you suffer from frequent stress or anxiety.
- For countering panic attacks, use these essential oils on your bracelet.
- During yoga and meditation, use oils such as Frankincense, Sandalwood or Geranium.
- Keep mosquitoes away by using oils such as Lemongrass, Melissa, or Tea Tree.
If you have any favorite diffuser blends, make a master blend in an empty 5 ml amber glass bottle (such as these ones here).
Use 5-7 drops of your master blend on your aromatherapy bracelet.
When To Use Your Diffuser Bracelet
Of course, you can use your essential oil diffuser bracelet whenever and however you like! But, the following are some of my favorite ways to put my bracelets to good use.
During Yoga or Meditation Practice
One of my favorite times to wear a diffuser bracelet is during a yoga or meditation session.
The bracelet allows me to keep the oils close to me and experience them directly, while not having to put them on my skin. Essential oils have chemical components, so they interact with your body’s scent. This is why some people smell slightly different after applying the exact same oil, as others.
To avoid this effect, use a diffuser bracelet and enjoy your pure essential oil smell.
To Keep Bugs Away
A diffuser bracelet is extremely handy for keeping bugs away during hot summer months. If you’re out gardening or jogging, the sweat from your skin can expel any topically applied bug spray you may have used.
The bracelet will keep the essential oil scent on you longer than a dose of bug spray would. Use some these essential oils that are best for keeping the bugs away on your bracelet.
To Replace Natural Perfume
Let’s be honest, sometimes we just want to smell nice. It makes us happy!
Essential oils are wonderful alternatives to traditional perfume. You can also use natural fragrances for a natural perfume, but please be aware of these important differences between essential oils and natural fragrances.
For using essential oils as perfume, simply use the oils that you like the smell of.
Final Thoughts
Depending on your shopping preferences, you can get diffuser braclets on Amazon, or from smaller family-run companies such as Drops of Joy Jewelry. If you prefer a different style of jewelry, try a diffuser necklace.
As with most products, it is recommended that you use the best quality oil. It is always a good idea to read the labels on your essential oil bottles and see what all the different types of oils and essences are capable of doing. Please ensure the oils you put on your diffuser bracelet are safe and not hazardous.
Especially if you’re frequently around your pet, please ensure that the oils you use for yourself, are also safe for the loved ones around you.

Is it ok to use essential oil sun flower to lava/ wooden beads?
Emma Carter
Hello! Sun flower oil is a base oil (carrier oil). It’s not an essential oil and as such, doesn’t have aromatherapy benefits through scent. Carrier oils only have benefits when applied on the skin. Of course, you can still choose to add it to your wooden beads, it won’t harm them. Hope this helps!
